Family Values in Ancient Times:

Many people of the present make some very grave and disturbing assumptions about prior unethical behaviour by humans. My theories may be biased and overly appreciative of a time before Empire and there is less data due to the destructive power of Empire and the hegemony to go on. However, that data is more pure and less likely to have been promoted or propagandized for the interests of power-mongers. Ground Beef Hamburger Patty Recipe - Juicy Grilled Hamburger Patty

Theres nothing worse than biting into a dry, unappetizing hamburger. You wont have that problem with this great grilled hamburger recipe. Hamburgers come hot off the grill with a delectable juicy texture that makes each bite really enjoyable.

2 pounds ground beef
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup bread crumbs, dry
3 tablespoons evaporated milk
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 cloves garlic, minced

Directions

Preheat the grill on high setting.

In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, evaporated milk, Worcestershire sauce, cayenne pepper and the garlic; mix ingredients with your hands. Form into 8 individual patties.

Lightly oil the grill grate. Grill hamburger patties for 5 minutes on each side, until well done.

1 large onion, cut up into chunks
1 cup ketchup
1/2 cup water, as needed

Directions

In a medium bowl, combine ground beef, 1/2 cup ketchup, bread crumbs, onion powder, steak sauce, salt and pepper to taste. Form hamburger into thick patties or meatballs.

Heat the vegetable oil in a heavy skillet on medium high heat. Cook patties until browned on both sides. Remove patties from skillet and place onto a paper towel lined plate. Drain grease from the skillet.

In the same skillet, slowly stir together the 1/2 cup ketchup and 1/2 cup water. You can add more water if the mixture is too thick, or, more ketchup if the mixture is too thin. Add in the onion and bring mixture to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low.

Add hamburger patties to the skillet and cover. Simmer for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, stir gravy. If the gravy is too thin, continue to simmer with the lid off until it thickens to the desired consistency.

Directions

Make 6 patties and then place them on a plate. Cover patties with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Preheat grill on high heat.

Take patties out of refrigerator. Pour hot wing sauce over patties until the tops (only) are well covered with sauce. Let patties sit there for 10 minutes.

But there are a growing number of companies and schools who aren't really in the business of education. Instead, they're in the education business -- their main business is selling quick and easy programs or simple online tests, complete with worthless transcripts and fake diplomas.

There are exceptions. But as a rule most transcripts and diplomas ordered or obtained from online high schools are useless. Unfortunately, students and adult learners are often and easily misled by diploma factories or diploma mills. Many of these companies and 'schools' appear to be professional businesses or accredited educational institutions. So, when selecting online education, it's smart to be cautious. Make sure the online learning solution is a real solution, and will help you achieve your goals.

First, it pays to understand how diploma factories work. Many adult learners fall victim to diploma scams, usually paying $200 to $800 in tuition, testing, transcript or diploma fees. But because the school or program isnt accredited, the diploma has no value. When it comes to employers, job training programs, tech schools, community colleges and universities, bogus diplomas are useless. And often, new 'graduates' don't learn that a diploma has no value until they're told by an employer or a college admissions department.

In most cases, the GED -- the term for General Education Development credential -- is the official 'diploma' that's meaningful for adults who never completed their high school education. For today's 34 to 38 million adults in the US who never graduated from high school, passing the GED test is a pass key to both career and educational opportunities. That's because approximately 95 percent of employers and even more US colleges and universities accept the GED.

When choosing an education program, a student's best bet is a GED solution, whether enrolling in a local GED class or using a self-guided online GED program. If online learning or distance learning is the solution you need, look for a program that includes all the components necessary to prepare for the GED test.

Here are some guidelines for choosing a quality learning solutions provider and avoiding bogus schools or fake diploma scams:

GED guidelines are established by the American Council on Education. Under the agency's rules, the test covers science, social studies, language arts reading and writing, and math -- including algebra, geometry and data analysis. Find a program that includes all testing areas; avoid any solution or school that doesnt include all test areas or information about test areas and the ACE's requirements.

GED practice tests are available online. These tests are a good way for a student to determine skill strengths and weaknesses and to understand how the test works. Read the fine print, before you pay -- make sure you understand what the company or school is offering and determine if it's worth the price. Is it a worthwhile learning process or just a fake diploma? Will it help you progress in your career or education? Ask for advice if you're not sure.

Look for outside information about companies or schools. Discover what other teachers, students and adult learners have experienced. Contact a department of education. Explore GED and education message boards, online forums or learning communities. Are there complaints, or reports of success?

Be very cautious in dealing with any company or online high school that offers a diploma or transcript after passing a quick online test. The GED test is hard! The exam is a timed 7.5-hour test.

Consider education as an important investment -- an investment you make in yourself and your future. Make sure your investment is a good one, and gives you a return that's worthwhile. The GED credential might be harder to get than a $250 diploma, but you can sure count on it to take you to where you want to go.

A Special Case For Steam And Water Properties And Mollier Diagram Software

It is very common to get complete steam and water properties as output using a number of software with any two of the input parameters like pressure, Temperature, enthalpy, entropy, dryness fraction and specific volume. Fortunately there is only a single solution with two such input parameters for most of the cases and hence one set of output parameters is displayed as output. But we can discuss a special case when more than one solution is possible with two of the input parameters as described earlier. For example, say with input parameters of enthalpy as 2500 kjoules/kg and dryness fraction as 0.9, theoretically there will be solutions as given below:

Almost none of the steam and water properties software, commercially available, provides two solutions. They usually provide one solution as output. The single solution such software provides, in those special cases, is right since it is one of the two solutions. But at the same time the user remains ignorant about the existence of the second solution which also might be of interest. It is true that existence of such dual solutions is limited, but they do exist.

Such special cases can be very clearly understood from Enthalpy-entropy Molliers diagram for steam. Very nature of the dryness fraction line (say for example the line for 0.9 dryness fraction) is such that in Enthalpy- entropy plane it cuts the constant enthalpy line (say for example 2500 kjoules/kg line) in two points. This obviously shows that there will be two solutions. In most of the Mollers diagram generation software, a provision of locating a point on the diagram with two input parameters is generally available. Unfortunately most of them can not show two points simultaneously on the diagram, whereas locating two points on the applicable diagram is very much needed.

Myth #1 - But it is good stress!

This is a popular one! It is true that we experience challenge even from events that are supposed to be positive. The Holmes-Rahe index of recent life changes assigns a point value to various events. You add up your points and your overall score is a reasonable predictor of how likely you are to become ill within the next year.

Many items on the list are positive ones - marriage, a new job, buying a house. The thing about it is that we dont use the word stress when we are experiencing the exhilaration of a challenge. By the time you use the word stress you arent having a positive experience any more. When you are having a positive experience you use words like challenge, stretch, and adventure.

So pay attention to your language! When you use the word stress, listen to yourself and do something about it.

Myth #2 - Stress is normal

I like this one, too. It is true that many people in our society are stressed. We almost seem to wear it like a badge. It is also becoming normal in our society to be overweight and to suffer from one or more illnesses that are directly stress-mediated.

There is a big difference between normal and average. Stress, obesity, and stress-related illness are average in the sense that a large number of people are affected by them. They are not normal. They are not our natural state of being.

Our bodies are designed to spring into action quickly in an emergency and return to a state of calm fairly quickly when the emergency is over. It is not normal to stay in a constant state of watchfulness or anxiety.

Myth #3 - I dont have time for stress management

Now, this one is easy. What do you, Bill Gages, Oprah, and the Dalai Lama have in common? Right, you each get 24 hours each day.

And it is amazing how your time priorities can change if a health emergency happens to you. Just watch how time priorities get rearranged after a person has a heart attack. All of a sudden they have time to watch their diet, exercise as recommended, and participate in rehabilitation on a daily basis. Where was that time before the heart attack? Right there, just being used for something that appeared more important at the time.

What is the answer?

There is no lack of information about stress management. In truth, what you need to do can be woven seamlessly through most of your day. The other parts, the quiet time and the exercise time, can take as little as 30 minutes total, unless you are training to be a mystic or an athlete. Dont fall prey to the myths. Aluminum: From budget tubular furniture to wrought or cast frames, aluminum is rustproof and lightweight. Pieces designed to look like ironwork often have a baked-on enamel or textured finish. Look for finishing details such as smooth seams on welded parts. Cast-aluminum pieces and those of thick, heavy-gauge alloys are top of the line in aluminum.

Plastic and Fiberglass Furniture: Buy the best quality you can afford, because inexpensive polymer pieces that break easily will decorate the dump for decades to come. Warranties are a guide, but test pieces by sitting on them and rocking around. Tubular parts made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride) can sometimes be disassembled for storage, depending upon how they are joined. Resin pieces are molded into a variety of shapes. Both come in a range of colored plastics; some are not able to withstand direct sunlight without discoloring.

Getting Your New York Mortgage Broker License

New York has one of the most detailed applications for mortgage licenses and one of the longest timeframes in which to get the approval for the license. But the large population in the state coupled with some very high housing prices (and therefore mortgage amounts) make New York one of the most coveted licenses for a mortgage broker that can generate business in that state.

The lengthy process starts with word approval from the Banking Department if you are a corporation or limited liability company (LLC). Even if your company is from out-of-state, you need the Banking Department approval to use certain words in your company name. "Mortgage" is one of the words that require approval. If another company has a similar name, you will need to use a different name in New York. It takes about 2-3 weeks to get the approval.

Completing the application is where most of my clients stop cold. The personal questionnaire is 7 pages long and asks about your spouse, parents, dependents, professional references, personal references, military history, and 15 years of employment history in detail. It asks about your initial contribution to the company, outstanding debts in excess of $10,000, and your income sources.

New York requires 2 years of mortgage industry experience and the principal who has it must draft an affidavit detailing each company he/she has worked for, its address and telephone number, the supervisor that the principal worked for, and job duties.

New York also requires fingerprint cards and credit reports from all owners of more than 10% of the shares. Lately, reviewers have been requesting leases and subleases for the office address, copies of licenses from other states, if applicable, copies of passports, and authentication from the county clerk confirming that the notary public that is used to notarize signatures on the application has a valid notary commission.

When you first submit the application, it goes through a preliminary review. If the application is deficient, the entire application is returned with a letter listing the deficiencies. When the application is re-submitted, it may be accepted for 90 day processing or it may be returned with another list of deficiencies. The first goal is to get the application accepted for 90 day review. The 90 days is not hard and fast and the applicant may be asked for additional documentation or clarification of documentation that is already part of the application. When you are asked to submit the $10,000 surety bond, you know you are near the end of the process.

If your application is approved, you must pick up the license in person at the Banking Department, even if you are from out-of-state. The Banking Department assigns you a date and time for the pick up and there is a meeting to explain certain requirements of maintaining your status as a licensee.

All together, the application process takes about 7-8 months from start to finish. Luckily, the license never expires.

It' amazing to consider that when "The Shield" premiered on March 12, 2002, the FX network was only known for one flagship show: Howard Stern's "Son of the Beach". That show would be laid to rest on October of 2002, as the FX network was looking to expand its original programming to include more action-oriented dramas that broke new ground. Since "The Shield" premiered back in 2002, FX then went on to produce the hits "Nip/Tuck", "Rescue Me" and "30 Days", the reality-documentary show that was created by the author of "Super Size Me", Morgan Spurlock.

From the day that "The Shield" premiered, controversy followed the series. Shawn Ryan, the show's creator, wanted to push the envelope of basic cable television to see what he could get away with. He used every possible profanity in the show's dialogue except the "F-word" and also was not shy about adding more blood and gore in one episode than "CSI" included in an entire season. But the FX network wanted this kind of controversy to help propel the FX name into the minds of the vast television audience. The trick seemed to work, as "The Shield" garnered the best ratings that FX had ever seen, and the show would go on to help win Emmys for guest-stars like Glenn Close. Forrest Whitaker also got rave reviews playing a detective hell-bent on getting Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis) behind bars for all the criminal activities Mackey has been covering up over the years with his crew of tough and corrupt cops.

The series started out with a bang when Vic and his crew had to kill a police officer that they believed was going to turn evidence in against them. Vic set up a shoot-out in a drug raid so that it looked like the would-be stoolie was killed by a drug dealer, and not by Vic's 45 Colt. It only got more corrupt and bloody for the corrupt crew from there on in. There are many fine performances by actors like Walton Goggins who plays one of Vic's best friends in his crew, Shane Vendrell, but who now faces Vic's wrath because he killed a much-beloved friend and ally of Vic Mackey's, Curtis Lemansky (Kenny Johnson). Shane also believed that "Lem" would turn state's evidence against the team, which caused Shane to drop a hand grenade on his friend and blow him to smithereens. In a recent episode, Vic gets Shane to reveal his horrible deed and the friction between Vic and Shane is driving the sixth season of the series into overdrive. The viewer never knows if Vic will eventually murder Shane, or let Shane kill himself through his reckless and psychotic behavior.

CCH Pounder is doing some of the best acting of her career playing the role of Claudette Wyms, a very strong and willful detective on the LAPD, who was made captain of the department last season. She and Dutch (Jay Karnes) made a great detective team who investigated every murder and rape with a great humanity and emotion that the rest of the LAPD division on the show never dared to convey. Dutch is now teamed up with the ex-captain of the division, who is none too pleased by the demotion. Their chemistry together is akin to a Laurel and Hardy comedic coupling, which results in some of the biggest laughs of the show, which is greatly needed now that the dark undertones of Vic's and Shane blood feud gains momentum.

There won't be another show like "The Shield" appearing on broadcast television any time soon, and that's a real shame, because network and broadcast TV executives need to pull in younger audiences who relish the violence of video games like "Grand Theft Auto 3" and movies like "Scarface". The only way to develop a true connection with the under-thirty crowd is to wow them with great action and a level of realism that every kid that's ever played the action-packed and gory "The Godfather" video game for XBOX 360 is accustomed to.

Let's hope creator Shawn Ryan has another great show in store for us after "The Shield" retires its badge in 2008.

How to Make Soap

Be sure to wear goggles that completely seal around the face and rubber gloves. Long sleeves and an apron are also a good idea. Do not make soap when children or pets are around. The following are the basic directions for how to make soap.

Basic Cold Process Soap Making Steps

In a glass bowl, add lye to distilled water mixing slowly.
Melt your oils in a stainless steel pot.
When the temperatures of the oils and the lye water are close to the same temperature, pour the lye water into the into the oils. This will create the soap mix.
Stir the soap mix thoroughly until it reaches "trace".
Once the soap mix reaches trace, add the essential oils or fragrances called for by the recipe.
Stir the soap mix and pour it into the soap molds.
Cover the molds with towels and let them set for twenty-four to forty-eight hours.
After the soap has solidified, remove the soap from the mold.
Allow the soap to cure for four to six weeks.

Celebrity Big Brother is upon us again. And lets face it we love it.

This years Celebrity Big Brother will be the fourth after it was originally conceived as a fund raiser for Comic Relief in 2002. Celebrity Big Brother proved very good at spotting fading celebs who are on the verge of imploding and to the eye-balls-glued-to-the-TV horror and delight of the millions watching, Vanessa let nobody down and imploded with some style.

This sort of on-screen celebrity unravelling was to set the standard for the second and third Celebrity Big Brother series and boy they havent disappointed.

Series two saw former Take That singer and all-round nice guy, Mark Owen, win it but the real interest was provided by the marital angst of not-so-funny-man, Les Dennis. Poor ol Les was Celebrity Big Brother Twos imploding unravelling celebrity. It seemed like he was the only one in the country who didnt know Amanda was about to walk. Cringe!

Last year we were spoiled for spectacle. Celebrity Big Brother excelled themselves when they managed to get the freak show that was John McCririck, Brigitte Nielsen and Jackie Stallone, in the same house. Will we ever forget the horror of McCririck (in full frame) pulling a juicy bogey from his nostril and then greedily lapping it up or his massive moody and being denied diet coke (of all things!) by Big Brother! Or the horror on Brigittes face, when ex-mother in-law Jackie Stallone was introduced into the Celebrity Big Brother pit. Fantastic. Baz from the Happy Mondays walked off with the prize, upsetting the bookies favourite child rapper, Blazin Squads, Kenzie.

So on to this year and Celebrity Big Brother Four and if Celebrity Big Brother were looking for a washed up fragile celebrity who could spectacularly unravel, right down to his DNA, before a hungry public, they can only have had one man at the top of their list. Step forward Mr Michael Barrymore.

Yes folks the former multiple winner of the UKs Entertainer Of The Year is rumoured to be going in to the Celebrity Big Brother House (for a fee of 150k). Already, the father of the boy who drowned in mysterious circumstances in Mr. Barrymores pool, is asking for him to be grilled on the subject by his housemates. Ouch.

So who are the other housemates likely to be? The list is endless but the best supported rumours for Celebrity Big Brother Four are, girly Boy George, saggy girl Lisa Nicole Smith, Dead or Alive front girl-man, Pete Burns, boy who looks like a girl Macaulay Culkin, funny girl Liza Tarbuck, toothy girl Esther Rantzen, lovely girl Fern Cotton and well Im out of girlie prefixes so Ill leave it there. One of the major culprits for causing bad skin is the sun. It causes the skin to go dry and dehydrated and also burns and destroys the natural properties of the skin. In my opinion it causes cancer and dark spots resulting in aging of the skin. You need too open your skin pours in order to achieve a good anti aging diet so to speak. And exfoliation of the skin is a key property to every bodys main fear which is growing old. After all it is important the skin gets regenerated so bad skin cells are made healthy. And this way all dry skin cells will be destroyed and the skin pours will be unclogged on a regular bases. These are some key attributes to healthy looking skin.

It appears that the true definition of a certain type of online advertising is becoming a bit blurry around the edges, and I'm wondering, "Do you know the difference?"

It used to be that the answer was a resounding, "Yes!" but nowadays, especially if one is new online, the answer most likely is "No."

You're probably reading this article in an ezine, most likely a very popular ezine, that offers it's subscribers several advertising options, such as:

Top sponsor ads
Middle sponsor ads
Bottom sponsor ads
Paid classified ezine ads
Free classified ezine ads
and the ever popular Solo ad.

It's the solo ad I'd like to discuss today.

First, here's an across-the-board, true definition of a solo ad:

"A special offer or information about a product or service emailed to opt-in subscribers of ezines or online publications."

This is an acceptable practice because readers are typically informed when they subscribe that they can expect a solo ad mailing on occasion.

Most solo ads are purchased directly from the ezine itself because the publisher provides good prices and incentives for an advertiser TO purchase from them directly.

Publishers know what a solo ad is - because it is their "bread and butter" providing some form of income for that publisher as he or she slaves away producing their publication on a regularly scheduled basis. It "pays the bills" so to speak.

But, lately, I've noticed that the words "solo ad" are used when, in essence, it is not a solo ad at all. And it's not usually the publisher who is making this mistake.

Reread the definition above. It's a mailing that goes to an ezine subscriber list - typically a group of opt-in EZINE readers - on occasion.

Now let's look at the definition of two other types of advertising that lately are being called "solo ads" when in fact they are not.

SAFELISTS:

"Safelists are lists of email addresses consisting of people who join and agree to receive email from other members, and send email to other members."

This is bulk mailing with permission - truly nothing more, nothing less. While your ad may be the only one inside the email received, it is NOT a solo ad in the finest sense of the word because, in return, you agree to also be mass emailed by the others on that list.

It's sort of the equivalent to emailing your address book, but knowing your new online "friends" won't turn you in to your own isp.

F^FA MAILINGS/POSTINGS

"FF^As are nothing more than raw link pages. They often have no categorization, no review... and no traffic. On the plus side, many do offer marketers the gratification of instant submission -- something not found easily elsewhere -- although the gratification does not last long."

Again this is a type of bulk mailing and/or posting of one's website. This type of mailing also leads to the "poster" being hit by massive amounts of UNSOL^ICITED emails in return.

Neither of these two are true solo ads, and while the controlled and well-handled safelist can be a good way to advertise (provided your headline stands out enough to be seen, your offer is read, and you don't mind getting tons of email in return), it is NOT a solo ad.

DON'T BE FOOLED!

I'm seeing programs and offers stating "send your solo" when, in fact, the method more closely resembles the Safelist or FF^A.

Remember, a solo ad comes from an ezine publisher. For the advertiser, this is an excellent form of advertising since your ad will be seen by the readers of that publication.

A solo ads value is based on:

1. The fact it is a one-time mailing
2. It is sent to ezine readers looking for good offers
3. It does not generate massive amounts of unsolicited email to the advertisers inbox.

A solo ad IS a full page ad in a quality publication.

As a ezine co-op owner I also offer solo advertising at a discounted price agreed upon by the publisher. This is true solo advertising - right on down to paying each publisher on the advertisers behalf to run that advertisers solo.

Because the participating ezine publishers have agreed to work with me, they in essence have dropped the price they typically charge to the advertiser to allow that advertiser to contact their subscriber list. I'm just a third-party method of helping the publisher sell their "exclusive" commodity - the solo ad.

But it IS just that - a solo ad.

This Kid Nutrition Activity Includes a Food Group Relay Race

This kid nutrition activity combines learning about nutrition and physical fitness. Children who are well nourished and physically fit learn more in school. Using the five food groups, kids will learn how much of each food group they need each day, how to recognize what foods belongs to each group, and plan a sample menu.

With the technical age of computers, video games and television, there is concern that children are not getting enough physical fitness in their day. Encourage children to participate in movement games, sports, dance and exercise at least one hour each day.

First, review the five food groups with kids. Discuss their favorite food and what group this food belongs in. For example, if a childs favorite food is pizza, ask them what food groups pizza belongs to. The five food groups and servings for kids ages 2-11 are:

Milk: 2-3 cups
Fruits: 1-2 cups
Vegetables: 1-2 cups
Grains: 3-6 ounces
Meats & Beans: 2-5 ounces

The serving size varies according to the age of the child. One slice of bread is one serving. Three ounces of meat is approximately the size of a deck of cards.

Next, have them plan a sample menu for one meal. Younger children can cut out pictures from a magazine and glue into sections on a paper plate. Older children can write out a sample menu on paper. For example, have kids plan a nutritious lunch they might want to take to school.

Finally, play a food group relay game. Make five signs, each labeled with a food group in large letters. Glue on several pictures of food from each group. Using 3 x 5 index card, put one food item on one card. Make lots of cards. For younger children, paste a picture of a food on each card.

To play the game, divide the kids into teams (no more than four teams is recommended). You need five volunteers to hold the food group signs. Have them stand a distance away from the teams, facing the teams and holding the signs up. Place a basket or bucket at their feet. Another volunteer will have a bag of food (index cards), and the first child in line will draw a food card.

When you say go or blow a whistle, the first child of each team runs to the correct food group, shows the sign holder to verify they are correct, and places their food card into the basket. They will run back to their team and go to the end of the line. The next player in line will draw a card and continue the relay. In this relay game everyone is a winner!

By the time they reach middle school, some kids are beginning to get serious about their team sports, especially volleyball. However in order to incorporate players of all skill levels, try selecting drills that place their emphasis on fun and teamwork instead of rewarding the skilled and punishing or humiliating those players with less-developed skill sets. The following middle school volleyball drills are an excellent way for players of all skill levels to improve and work together towards helping others progress as well.

The Importance of a Good Serve

While serving is one of the most important skills in volleyball, drills that practice and improve your players serving skills are often left until the end of the practice. But when you think of it in terms that serving is the only time when a player has complete control over the ball, youll think twice before shoving serving practice until the last minutes of your practice.

The aspect of serving that most players have trouble with is accuracy. Therefore try including some drills that highlight serving accuracy at your next volleyball practice, and watch the points rake in at your next game as your players learn to serve with pin-point accuracy to the holes in the other teams defense.

When showing these middle school volleyball drills to your team, make sure to run them at half speed first to give players a chance to practice the movements before implementing them in the drill. Also encourage players to ask questions on anything they are unsure of before proceeding to avoid injury and embarrassment.

To set up this serving drill, place a chair on either side of the net in Area 1. Divide your team into 2 groups that stand on either side of the net. One player from each group sits in the opposing teams chair, opposite from their team mates. The play begins as the first player from each team attempts to serve the ball with enough precision that the player sitting in the chair can catch it easily.

If the player misses their serve, the ball goes to the next player in line. If the serve is successfully caught, the player who served the ball changes places with the person in the chair, and the new player moves the chair to Area 2. Continue play until each player has made a few serves and gotten to sit in the chair or until the chair has made a few rounds around the court. To up the competitive spirit of the game enforce a rule where if a player serves out of bounds or into the net all members of their team must run and touch the 10 foot line, the end line, and the center line before returning to their positions.

Get your Players in Tip Top Shape

The next of the middle school volleyball drills starts off by having 6 players on either side of the net. The coach throws a ball in from the side, and the players must play the ball like usual except that they may only tip the ball. Each time they tip the ball to the other side, they rotate one position.

Make sure they successfully execute 2 tips before tipping the ball over to the other side. This drill is a fast-paced way to get players moving, which means it is a great warm-up drill before games.

Defamation and Slander on the Internet

As social networking sites and internet blogs continue to increase in both popularity and use, the opportunities for defamatory and libelous actions increase proportionally. Defamation, sometimes called "defamation of character", is spoken or written words that falsely and negatively reflect on a living person's reputation. Slander is generally spoken defamation, while libel is written. Blogs or social networks in which defamatory statements are written or recorded present several potential sources of liability and recovery for the person whose character was defamed. In cases where the defamation is proved, damages are presumed and often enforced with liberality.

Operators of blogs are generally immune from liability for defamatory statements posted on their websites, as long as they did not contribute to the posting. In 2003, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that a listserv moderator and operator of a website which allegedly published defamatory statements provided by a third party was eligible for immunity under the Communications Decency Act (CDA). Batzel v. Smith, 2003 US App.LEXIS 12736 (9th Cir. 2003). However, if the online service provider plays an active role in soliciting information from users that leads to the defamatory act, the operator may not be protected by the safe harbor provisions of the CDA. In Carafano v. Metrosplash.com, Inc., a federal court ruled on the application of the safe harbor of the Communications Decency Act (CDA). The defendant in that case operated a matchmaking website known matchmaker.com. As part of its service, the defendant collected profiles of singles based on an extensive questionnaire. The plaintiff sued Metrosplash because of a false profile of her which an unknown user had posted to the website. The court ruled that by creating the extensive questionnaire, Metrosplash played an active role in developing the information that had been posted. Furthermore, the court ruled that Metrosplash was an information content provider and thus not eligible for the CDA's safe harbor provided to "interactive computer services." Carafano v. Metrosplash.com, Inc., Case No. CV 01-0018 DT (CWx) C.D. Cal. 2002) (subsequently reversed by appeals court). While operators of blogs and services are generally immune from such liability, the more active the service is with its members, the greater the likelihood of potential liability as a publisher of defamatory materials.

Another potential source of liability is the person who actually posted the defamatory materials. As with more general defamatory statements or materials, a poster can be held personally liable for anything posted which reflects falsely and negatively on a living persons reputation. Posting false and explicit claims regarding a person will generally be held as defamatory for purposes of liability. However, other issues arise concerning the anonymity of the person posting the information, and if known, the jurisdiction in which they are subject.

Jurisdictional issues may arise in situations where the poster had no reason to expect that the effect of the posting would be felt in a certain jurisdiction. However, in defamation cases jurisdictional disputes are liberally ruled upon in favor of the victim. In Griffis v. Luban, the Minnesota court of appeals ruled that Alabama had jurisdiction over a Minnesota defendant who posted defamatory messages on the Internet. The defendant repeatedly posted messages on an Internet newsgroup attacking the plaintiffs professional credentials. The plaintiff initially obtained a $25,000.00 default judgment in Alabama, which she was seeking to enforce in Minnesota. The Minnesota court ruled that the Alabama court had properly exercised jurisdiction because the effects of the messages were felt in Alabama and that the defendant should have expected that she would be sued there. An important factor in the ruling was that she had actual knowledge of the effect of the defamatory statements on the Defendant. Therefore, the Minnesota court enforced the $25,000.00 default judgment. Griffis v. Luban, 633 N.W. 2d 548 (Minn Ct. App. 2001).

However, there are cases where courts have refused to allow the exercise of personal jurisdiction based on defamatory statements. In a Pennsylvania case, the court refused to exercise jurisdiction over a New York defendant who had posted defamatory comments about a defendant on an offshore betting website. The court held that since the comments were not specifically directed at Pennsylvania, the court could not exercise personal jurisdiction over the defendant. English Sports Betting, Inc. v. Tostigan, C.A. No. 01-2202 (E.D. Pa. 2002).

The problems with bringing defamatory actions based on internet postings largely lie in proving that the defendant actually made the posting. If that connection can be made, a much stronger case can be presented and jurisdictional issues can be tackled. An attorney who is experienced in cyberlaw and internet cases can improve your chances in prevailing in any such case. Without the help of an attorney who can find and connect the evidence, most internet defamation cases will fail for lack of evidentiary sources and experience.

It seems that people generally find it easy to give, but more difficult to receive. Receiving is a very important part of giving. Both keep that energy circulating in our lives. And they keep prosperity flowing in our lives.

I've learned that we should receive with joy and gratitude. Thank the person and thank the Universe. In this way, you keep the doors open to receive even more. And you may even receive money and prosperity from unusual sources. "Creating Money" offers an exercise (one of many) that you can do right now. It suggests that you ask the Universe to send you money through a new channel in the next several weeks and acknowledge it when it comes. Try it and see what happens!

Maybe they have important lessons to learn, and if we constantly give to them, they never learn to empower themselves. I've learned that it is best to assist them to create their own prosperity and abundance.

Manifesting Tool # 1

The Magic List

First, I would like to share with you a tool I've used successfully, beginning early in my life. I know that many others have used this tool successfully and authors have written about it, especially in recent years. It's actually very simple and very powerful. I used to call this simply my "List" but now, I call it the "Magic List", inspired by one of my non-metaphysical students several years ago. (More about that later). With this Magic List, you are using the power of the written and the spoken word that is released to the Universe to manifest in your reality.

All it requires are these steps:

1. Take a piece of paper (any kind of writing paper - from a notebook, or your favorite color of paper, etc), and write a numeric list of all of your desires. They can be short-term of long-term desires. State your desires as clearly as possible.

2. After you have written down your desires, at the bottom of the page, write something to this effect: "May all of these desires, or better, manifest for the Highest good of all." This releases any need to manifest your desires in a particular way. It opens it up to the Universe to bring you what you want in the best and Highest way possible, and at the right time.

3. Keep your Magic List with you at all times, in your wallet, purse, etc.

4. Read your list (aloud if possible) just before going to sleep, first thing upon awakening and before going into meditation. Do this every day, and you will soon see profound results.

5. As your desires manifest, cross them off your checklist. Soon, you will want to rewrite it, creating a new Magic List (the old one eventually can look pretty unreadable with all of those lines crossing things off!) on a fresh piece of paper. If some of the old desires haven't yet manifested, you can add them, too. Personally, I prefer to do this on the new and full moons, taking advantage of their powerful manifesting energies.

Several years ago, I studied Native American spirituality from a Lakota medicine woman and learned the ritual of clearly stating my written desires to the Universe on the new and full moons and then burning them, releasing them to the Universe. You'll want to keep your Magic List as a separate list, however, as you'll be using it every day.

6. Finally, do not show your list or talk about it to others. Keep it to yourself. This is a way of keeping your energy totally and directly focused on what you want. Talking about it and sharing it with people only disperses your energy and it may take longer for those desires to manifest.

The Magic List really, truly works. Anyone can do it. The non-metaphysical student (also my co-worker at the time) I mentioned earlier was in one of my prosperity workshops and, as I described what I originally called my "List", he became very pale. After the class, he told me that he had started to write a list just like the one I described when he was a little boy. He said he called it his "Magic List" and never told a soul, not even his brother. He was so amazed to hear me speaking about his secret! And he just had to show me his list, even though I protested. I'm glad that he did in this particular case, because his list was very unusual and it demonstrated how miraculous this tool really is.

This man, then in his fifties, had several hobbies, most centered around finding and collecting unusual, rare, old objects and bottles - some valuable. The items on his list were things most people have never heard of or seen before. His list was well worn, with several items crossed off. He said he kept it in his wallet, looking at his list a couple of times each day. He described to me how each item came to him, just like magic.

Sometimes, it meant suddenly driving down a street for no apparent reason, just to discover that there was a garage sale going on, and then seeing one or several of his desires on the list for sale at the perfect price for him. He would continuously find himself in the right place at the right time. One of the items on his list manifested about three weeks after he had showed his list to me. It was a classic car (I forget the model) in the exact color and year he had specified, and in mint condition. An elderly woman had kept it in her garage all these years and decided to get rid of it. On his way to work one day, he happened to turn onto her street. He saw the 'For Sale' sign, and the price was right. Later, he drove the car to work to show me.

I wanted to share this experience with you to emphasize how the Magic List always works, even for those not familiar with metaphysics.

Manifesting Tool #2

The Magic Wheel

As a teenager, I started to create what I call a "Magic Wheel", learning from people like Catherine Ponder, author of "Opening Your Mind To Prosperity", who calls it the "Wheel of Fortune".

In the years since, I've learned other names from different sources, such as the "Prosperity Wheel", but the main thing is that this is another powerful tool that works for everyone. The Magic Wheel works like the Magic List, except that you are creating pictures of your desires instead of writing them down. Your subconscious communicates to you in pictures and symbols all of the time, mainly through your dreams. Why not communicate directly to your subconscious in pictures? You do so, anyway, with your imagination. This is yet another very powerful way to manifest what you want in a short period of time.

1. First, buy some large poster boards in the colors that appeal to you. For example, if you are working specifically on creating wealth, prosperity, or a new job, you may want to select green poster paper. Gold will work well for this, also. Visually, the subconscious will associate green or gold with money. Remember that color is vibration and energy, also, and what we are doing is working and playing with energy. If you are working on love and romance, for instance, you may want to select a pink shade of poster board. Use whatever color you personally resonate to for what you want to achieve.

2. Cut the poster board(s) into large circles.

3. Search through magazines, brochures and ads and look for pictures, specifically color pictures, of what you desire. The subconscious will more quickly respond to color than to black and white pictures. Then cut them out and paste or tape them to your wheel.

4. I've taught people to use different wheels for different kinds of desires. For example, you'll want the love and romance wheel to only have pictures that represent love and romance to you, such as hearts, pictures of couples, etc. Put pictures representing prosperity and money, or your ideal job or life's work, on your prosperity wheel. You may want to cut out pictures of money in the denominations you want and place them on your wheel. A picture of your new career will show your subconscious exactly what you want.

You can have many wheels, just be sure not to clutter them with your pictures or you'll attract cluttered results. And make sure the pictures you place on your wheel are exactly what you want to see manifest in your life.

5. Once you have completed each wheel, put something on it that represents your spiritual connection, such as a picture of an Ascended Master that you resonate to, pictures of angels, etc. This doesn't have to be a picture; it could be a solid object, like crystals or a cross, for example. In my Native American spirituality class, we learned to also add something that represented our personal totems to our wheels. By adding something that represents your concept of spirituality, you add power, energy and protection to your wheel.

You may want to place a picture of yourself on each wheel, also, so that your subconscious can see you associated with the pictures you wish to materialize. However, your subconscious will get the message very clearly with or without your picture.

6. Look at your Magic Wheel every day, especially when you first wake up and before you go to sleep. And again, you don't want to share your wheel with others. As Catherine Ponder says, "what is sacred is secret".

Manifesting Tool #3

Positive Affirmations

Many of you have heard about the power of using positive affirmations to create what you want in life. If you have beliefs such as those I mentioned earlier in this article, beliefs that have been holding you back from what you want, use of positive affirmations is the key. When used repeatedly, positive affirmations literally re-program your subconscious mind. They are positive instructions that replace those old beliefs with the ones you need, in order to manifest exactly what you want. Using positive affirmations is one of the most powerful things you can do to help yourself.

Positive affirmations are positive statements that you write down and/or read daily, until what you wish manifests in your life. Reading and writing positive affirmations repeatedly about money, prosperity and abundance is another very powerful tool that always works.

1. To start, write down a page of positive affirmations in the present tense. Start with "I" or "I Am". Write down these affirmations several times each, 10 - 20 times. For example, you may want to write, "I am a success", or "I am a magnet for prosperity", or "I deserve to be wealthy", or "I now have a wonderful, new job", over and over. The statements you use must feel comfortable to you. You can write positive affirmations for all areas of your life, including love and health.

2. Read your positive affirmations out loud. The spoken word is very powerful and will create results quickly. It will set certain vibrations into motion that will manifest into form.

3. Say your positive affirmations aloud in front of a mirror. At the School of Metaphysics, I learned how powerful it is to look into your own eyes in a mirror while doing certain exercises such as speaking affirmations. Your eyes really are the windows to your soul, and repeating affirmations while looking into your eyes is highly empowering. The benefits are many, including gaining a greater self-confidence, self-esteem, self-image, self-love, and optimism. Louise Hay, author of 'You Can Heal Your Life," also suggests speaking affirmations in front of a mirror while looking into your eyes.

4. You can also tape your affirmations in your own voice and play them at work or in your car, or anywhere, anytime. The more you use your affirmations, the faster your affirmations become beliefs. And your beliefs will always become your reality. For examples of powerful, positive money and prosperity affirmations, I strongly suggest reading "Creating Money" and/or ordering the affirmations on tape at www.orindaben.com. There are many suggested affirmations throughout the book, channeled from guides Orin and DaBen, which are designed to create major changes in your life.

In Conclusion

These tools are some of the ways in which you can quickly manifest money, prosperity and abundance, or anything you desire. Some other very effective tools you may wish to explore are Feng Shui (which keeps positive energy flowing in your personal and working environment), mudras (yoga hand postures), mantras (word/sound affirmations) and using the power of sound, such as "AH", to manifest while visualizing your desires. All of these tools are ways to keep your magic wand pointed only at what you want. These tools and techniques use energy and spiritual laws that truly create magic in your lives.

It is also important to let go. In my workshop experience, this is where many people get stuck. They want to control how and when something is going to manifest. This only creates a block in the energy flow. After using any or all of the above manifesting tools, directing your attention only on what you want, it's important to let go of the outcome. Just let it happen. Don't worry about it. Allow it to come into your reality. Trust that the Universe will bring it to you in the Highest possible way.

Anytime you want to see or measure just how your manifesting is progressing, just look around at your life. Your life is a mirror of everything going on inside of you. Your life accurately reflects your beliefs, desires and dreams. If you don't like what you see, change it by changing that picture in your head and by changing your beliefs. Make sure your wand is pointing exactly at what you want at all times.

Know that you are never alone. You can always ask for assistance from your Higher Selves, angels, guides, the Ascended Masters, All-That-Is, at anytime. You are really standing on the brink of the Golden Age. Now is the time to remember who you really are. You truly are magicians, shamans, wizards, masters, avatars and creators.

Pay Option Mortgage Loan

This loan is designed to give borrowers maximum payment flexibility. By allowing as low a payment as possible, with options to pay more, borrowers are given greater control of their monthly cash flow. In addition, this program has low annual optional payment caps and an attractive life cap (cap is a limit on a potential interest rate increase). INVESTORS- Maximize cash flow and take advantage of your equity on a monthly basis.

The minimum payment for this program could be up to 50% less than your traditional payment. Program Design: This loan is designed to give borrowers maximum payment flexibility. By allowing as low a payment as possible, with options to pay more, borrowers are given greater control of their monthly cash flow. In addition, this program has low annual optional payment caps and an attractive life cap.

Basics: This program is based on the Monthly Treasury Average (MTA), if you are not using the 30 year fixed option. The MTA is a very stable index used to determine the monthly interest rate. It is derived from the twelve-month average of monthly yields on activity traded U.S. Treasury Securities.

How the Pay Option ARM Works: The borrower's first year payment is based on a low interest rate, with terms as long as forty years. Minimum payments are adjusted annually, with the option to ensure monthly payments will not increase by more than 7.5% annually. The borrower is only required to pay the minimum payment. They can pay that amount, or more. The borrower is provided with up to three options each month:

The minimum payment,
The interest only payment,
The full payment- a payment that will amortize the loan over the remaining loan term

Loan Term: This is the period of time in which you pay your mortgage. A traditional mortgage is 30 years. With the Pay Option ARM your term is 40 years. How does this affect me? If you owe $1,200 and pay this over a year that would give you a payment of $100 a month. If you increase the term to 2 years your payment would drop to $50 a month. This is a very simple example with no interest, get the idea? Now you can see that changing the term from 30 to 40 years would greatly reduce your monthly mortgage payment, without any other factors.

Optional Limited Payment: The monthly payment will not increase by more than 7.5% from the prior year's monthly payment amount, regardless of the increase in interest rate.

Optional Interest Only Payment: The monthly payment will be applied towards interest only. This means that the monthly payment will not reduce the principal balance.

Full Payment: The monthly payment that would be sufficient to repay the unpaid principal over the full term of the loan.

Deferred Interest: If the monthly payment is less than the amount of the interest portion, the monthly payment amount will be subtracted from the interest portion and this difference will be added to the unpaid balance. For example-let's say your fully indexed rate is 4.5%* and you only pay 1.5%* each month. That means you would pay $250 a month for a $200,000 home. That leaves 4.5% minus 1.5%- 3% in interest each month. This interest is added to your mortgage balance. Wow! Why would I want to do that? Well, if your house appreciates (increases in value over time) let's say 20%, that leaves 17% each year that is yours. You would realize this equity when you sell your home. However, now, when you need it you will have greatly enhanced cash flow.

1) You need to have 4 trade lines reporting on your credit for the past 24 months.

2) No derogatory reporting on your credit in the last 24 months and all collections over $200 satisfied.

3) Down payment- this program does provide 100% financing; however, a full document loan only.

New Credit Advice: Don't Pay off Those Credit Cards!

Credit needed for real estate mortgage financing differs from credit needed for consumer loans. If you need help getting a home mortgage, these credit tips will help you.

Contrary to what many credit advisors say, paying off credit cards each month is not always the best action to take. When making credit card payments, don't pay the balance in full each month -- let a little roll over. Carry a balance on your credit card every other month --as little as a dollar. Paying balances in full does not increase your credit score; paying balances in full may in fact lower your credit score. Accounts with zero balances do not compute significantly in your total score. For instance, a credit card with a perfect payment history and no balance will not raise your credit score as much as a credit card with a low balance. Any balance keeps the card active so it computes in your credit score.

You most likely have been advised to cut up your credit cards and close your accounts. Following this advice degrades many credit scores.

Canceling Credit Cards

Canceling credit cards can lower your credit score. Keep your longest-term credit card account open to show long-term credit history. If this account has prior late notations, negotiate with the creditor to drop negative reporting on your credit history file. Slowly close out newer accounts after they are paid off. Keep your best accounts open -- those paid on time or reporting "pays as agreed" and with the longest history.

Credit card companies may raise your rate if you cancel a card before it is paid off; it is best to keep accounts with outstanding balances open until you pay them off.

Perfect Balance of Credit

1. Mortgage over one year old with all payments on time

2. Visa Card or Master Card with less than 10% of available credit as balance due

3. Discover or American Express Card with less than 10% of available credit as balance due

4. Auto loan either paid off or paid down with low payments compared to monthly income.

Debt-to-Income Ratio

Credit scores do not reflect income -- credit bureaus do not have income reported to them. However, real estate lenders look at the consumer debt-to-income ratio -- the amount of monthly debts in relation to the amount of earnings. Consumer debt is more highly regarded/scores higher if total debt is under 20% of net income, or total monthly payments on all debts is less than 35% of monthly gross income.

Qualifying Ratios

Lenders want the total debt ratio (the percentage of total monthly payments, including the new mortgage, to income) to be less than 33% for a typical conventional mortgage. This means the new mortgage payment, credit card payments, and all other monthly debt payments should not equal more than about one-third of the monthly income.

Lenders want the mortgage debt ratio (the percentage of the new mortgage payment to income) to be less than 28%.

Non-prime loans have lower standards; some lenders allow debt-to-income ratios as high as 55%. Borrowers with less than perfect credit qualify more easily for a non-prime loan compared to an "A-paper" loan.

Once you total your monthly expenses and determine your debt ratio, you can estimate how much you can afford for a house payment. For example, if your income is around $3,000 per month, you can afford a home with payments around $1,000 per month (including taxes and insurance) with a conventional loan, if your other debt does not total more than 5% of your income.

For investors, these equations change. Lenders expect 10%-25% down on investment property and allow about 75% of the rental income to offset the debt ratio.

Understanding your credit helps you manage your credit so you can obtain real estate financing, either for the house of your dreams or for your financial future.

As for the rest of you, read on and we'll explore the wonderful world of ceiling lighting and how you can use these versatile fixtures in your home or apartment.

Let's start with the granddaddy of ceiling fixtures, the chandelier. If one lighting fixture has truly evolved over the course of its existence, it's the chandelier. Once a status symbol hung in many a dining room and atrium in decadent Victorian homes, these early chandeliers were odes to extravagance and overindulgence. And they were huge. Monstrous, really, some were probably larger than most modern day studios and lofts (not really). One can still find chandeliers that harken back to those days, ornate, almost to a fault, and big enough to need their own zip code. On the flip side, contemporary chandeliers are often very understated and sleek with simple designs and a wide range of sizes. Really, the only thing these modern chandeliers have in common with their predecessors is the name. For the most part, however, their uses remain the same - entryways and dining rooms is where they work best.

Perhaps the hottest form of ceiling lighting currently is the pendant light. Pendant lighting has invaded everything from retail shops to your neighborhood Starbucks, and is slowly making its way into more and more homes. The versatility of pendants makes them ideal for any size room. Pendant lights are generally small and feature adjustable cords, so they work with a variety of ceiling heights. The best part about pendants is how customizable they are, as far designing your own formations and varying the cord heights to create your own unique look. Pendant lights work almost anywhere, but are ideal for kitchens and dining rooms.

Not as hip and sexy as pendant lighting, but perhaps more practical and useful, are ceiling mounts and track lighting units. There are plenty of flush and semi-flush mounts on the market that break from the mold of the boring square or circular models. I had undertaken a project that I was beginning to feel was beyond my personal resources to accomplish. I had asked a friend and colleague if I might organize a workshop in the New England area that he would teach. After many months of collecting information, I was at the point of choosing and committing to a conference center. Next would come the advertising, invitations, mailings, registrations, etc. It happened many years ago in the early stages of my new career, and I was beginning to feel that I was in over my head. I began to wish I had never started the project but was afraid to say anything, because I didnt want to let my friend down.

This change of heart was difficult to acknowledge. I couldnt heed the internal signals that were telling me to stop because of the louder voice cautioning that I had started something that I needed to finish. Others were depending on me. Listening to the small Stop voice was dangerous, because I might disappoint people. It was easier to plow ahead, even if it meant discounting my intuition.

Still, that persistent little voice kept nagging . . .

I decided to call my friend and talk about it, not exactly knowing my goal for the conversation but trusting my intuition. Seeking approval is deeply rooted in me, and at the time it's pretty much all I cared about. But I'm glad I had the courage to call, because I received a great gift that continues to support me whenever Im faced with alternative paths.

The Gift

My friend answered the phone, we exchanged pleasantries, and I began. He listened. I think he understood immediately what was happening, and after a pause from me said just a few words: "Judy, go where your energy is strong."

Yes. It made sense. And it was really simple. Where was my energy strong? Not for this project at this time. It was taking my focus away from what I really wanted to do design and implement my own workshops. That's where my energy was strong. That's what I wanted to be doing, planning and thinking about. All at once everything fell into place.

It felt exactly like it does on the mat, practicing aikido a martial art that has become a metaphor for me in difficult situations. If you try to force the technique, it's all strain and stress and struggle, and you could end up getting hurt or hurting your partner. But when you move from center and follow your ki (life energy), the endeavor is effortless.

As I followed my ki, I knew I would stop the process I had begun, and that it was the right thing to do. Forcing the issue would have strained my resources and, eventually perhaps, the relationship. My friend understood before I did that the timing wasnt right.

I learned an important lesson that day from a gentle teacher. I try to remember to live by it and it still takes practice. Those who know me know that I call myself an "approval-seeking missile" not that it's necessarily a bad thing to want anothers good opinion. But now I'm able to notice if it is my dominant motivation and to let my center guide me. Sometimes I go ahead with the project anyway. I like to be liked after all. And sometimes I stop and take a look at my motives. Often there is a way to acknowledge and satisfy both my need for appreciation and the call to be true to my inner wisdom. I have learned to listen to myself.

Why am I struggling? Where is my energy strong? These are living questions. When you feel yourself resisting something, let these questions be your guide. Youll learn you have more power than you think.

PRACTICE:

Is there an "either or" decision youre struggling with? Notice if your head is telling you to go in one direction, while your heart is pulling in another.

The process of centering integrates head and heart, intellect and emotions, mind, body, and spirit.

Sit quietly and think about whats important. You may find that you have two or more values that are competing with each other.

Write down your thoughts, feelings and reactions.

If possible, let the question be in your consciousness for a while. Come back to it periodically in different ways.

Where is your energy strong? In time youll know the answer.

Halloween Activities for Kids

There's no doubt about it; kids love Halloween. They love dressing up in costumes and collecting loads of candy. But did you know that kids also enjoy participating in other fun, creative activities as well? There are tons of interesting ways to entertain a child's imagination, including simple craft projects and games. Why not take advantage of this amazing holiday by spending some extra time with the children and doing these activities together?

Craft projects are a great way to get your child involved with Halloween traditions. Children love the chance to use and show off their imagination. Why not allow them to help out with the Halloween decorations? Sure, you could go out and spend lots of money on decorations that are already assembled, but wouldn't it be nice to save some cash by making your own? And as a bonus, you get to share the moment with your children.

Here's a nifty idea for adding Halloween charm to your porch or patio. Thoroughly clean and remove the labels from empty 2-liter pop bottles and pour a little bit of orange paint inside, replacing lid afterward. Let the kids shake the bottles around until the inside is covered with orange paint. Once dry, allow them to decorate faces onto the outside of the bottles with black paint. Add a green ribbon or bow to the top of the bottle and set on the porch. To lessen the chance of your pop-bottle pumpkins from blowing over, you can add a handful of sand using a funnel.

Another fun project for the kids involves making pumpkin pouches from ordinary paper plates. These creative little pouches will look great hung on the wall or door. Use them for holding candy or other items. In fact, use them all year long. They can easily be created to change as the seasons do. Take two plates and cut one in half. Secure the half plate onto the whole one using either staples or weaving ribbon through punched-out holes. Paint the plate pouch orange and allow it to dry. Decorate the pumpkin with funny or spooky faces and hang (pouch out). You could also have the kids create a festive Halloween handprint wreath for hanging on the front door. Choose autumn-colored pieces of construction paper and trace around your child's hand. Cut the little hands out and glue them together in the shape of a wreath. These can be further decorated or left as is. The size of the wreath is up to you.

Planning a party? Get the kids to help out with the invitations. Create adorable ghost print cards using their own footprints. Your children will not only enjoy making them, but your guests will love the cute designs as well. Simply grab some black and orange-colored construction paper (amount will vary depending on how many people), white tempera or other washable paint, and some gold gel markers. Lay down some newspaper and fill a shallow container with paint. Fold each piece of construction paper in half and place, one at a time, onto the newspaper. Have each child dip his/her foot into the paint and stamp' the card with a footprint. Allow the cards to dry; afterward, let the kids add a face onto the ghost and print a small message inside using markers. You could use glue for this instead and decorate with glitter.

You could attach some lively little ghost pops onto each card. Just have the children cover a tootsie pop with tissue and secure it in place with a piece of orange or black yarn. Use a marker to add a face to the ghost. These also make fun treats to give out to the trick-or-treaters.

Other interesting ideas for the kids to make and give out to party guests as well as trick-or-treaters include bat bags and candy cups. Use an ordinary brown paper lunch bag and some brown construction paper. Have the kids draw a bat's head onto the piece of construction paper and cut it out. Let them decorate it with markers, glitter, etc. Fill the bag with treats, fold the top over, and staple (parent/adult should do this). Of course, you don't need to feel limited to bats; allow them to choose whatever Halloween design they want or one that goes with a party theme.

Candy cups are good for party guests. Simply allow kids to decorate Styrofoam cups with markers relating to Halloween theme. Meanwhile, fill some plastic baggies with individually wrapped candy and tie the tops with decorative yarn or ribbon. Let the kids drop one baggie into each of the cups; these can also contain the names of guests or allow the guests to become involved as well and include the activity as a party event.

While children are always fascinated with creative craft projects, they simply love the opportunity to play. Games are another fun way for them to enjoy the Halloween festivities. Traditional games such as Snap Apple are always a hit. Hang an apple from the doorway with a string and have the children take turns trying to bite the apple, with their hands behind their back. This game was thought to bring good fortunes to those accomplishing the task. Of course, you could give a prize instead.

An interesting alternative to the more traditional Halloween games might include a good old-fashioned game of Pin the Nose on the Pumpkin. This game is played in the same way as Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Create a pumpkin from a piece of orange poster board and draw a mouth and eyes onto it with black marker. Create the nose from a piece of black poster board or construction paper and attach some double-sided tape to the back of it. Blindfold the players, having them turn around a couple of times, then allow them to 'pin' the nose onto the pumpkin. Winner gets a small prize.

Halloween isn't just about the candy or the costumes; nor is it about the ghosts, goblins, or witches. Halloween is an ideal occasion for spending and honoring time with family and friends. From small decorating projects to fun games, the Halloween season offers plenty of easy and interesting activities for the kids as well as the parents.

Lanolin - Should It Be In Your Skincare Products?

Lanolin softens and protects. It's harvested without harming animals. It's quickly absorbed by the skin without clogging pores. So why are people avoiding it?

What Is Lanolin?

A pure, natural product, lanolin is simply the wax taken from sheep's wool, after the sheep has been shorn. The sheep is not hurt. He probably does not enjoy having his fur cut off, but the people who do this are highly trained, they do it quickly, and the sheep joins his herd again in a matter of minutes.

The clipped wool is naturally covered with a pale-yellow, water repellent wax. Also known as wool fat, it's purpose is to keep the sheep healthy and dry. It's extracted from the wool by a boiling process. This is crude lanolin.

Refining - the Key to Safety

The next step is to refine this wax, and remove impurities. PBS recently made a documentary on lanolin, and they purified it by mixing it with olive oil and water. The impurities dissolved into the water and oil, leaving the lanolin as an off-white wax which could be gathered up.

In commercial lanolin processing, refining is done in sterile environments and through many stages. This refining process is the key to the safety of the lanolin. Depending on the needs of the manufacturer, the lanolin can be refined crudely, in which case it may still contain impurities. Or it can be refined to medical grade - safe enough for nursing mothers to use on cracked nipples.

So Why the Bad Press?

There are two potential problems with lanolin.

1. It can be refined to acceptable cosmetic grade and still contain impurities, some of which can be allergens. People who are allergic to lanolin are probably allergic to unrelated ingredients that were not removed in the refining process. Also, some manufacturers use a chemical bleach to whiten the color. And the finished product may have been mixed with vegetable oils or soft paraffin that comes from other sources. There could be impurities in these additives.

2. Some lanolin can be tainted with DDT, dieldrin, lindane, or other toxic pesticides. It's possible for these carcinogens to make their way into our skincare products. This is because the sheep may be eating food that has been treated with these or other insecticides.

How to Make Sure Your Lanolin Is Safe

Both problems are solved by buying your lanolin-based products from a reputable company; a company you know and trust; a company with visibility - a website with contact information; a detailed label on their product. Make sure the lanolin in your lotion is labeled as pure grade, fine grade, highly refined, or medical grade. If you're unsure about the grade, email the company through their website. The well-refined lanolins will be free of pesticides and impurities.

When purchasing a finished skincare product, make sure, too, that it has not been tested on animals. The website My Makeup Mirror has a list of companies that do not use animal testing, and this list is constantly being updated.

Lanolin itself is not likely to cause allergic reactions, although each individual must check with their doctor before using anything that is absorbed into the body.

Many lanolin-based products are non-animal tested. And by making sure the soap, lip balm, skin cream, moisturizer, or hair product you use contains only high grade or medically graded lanolin, you can breathe easy, and enjoy lanolin's benefits.

Panthers were fast and small for a reason - it gave the police an edge over the average vehicle when it came to speed and handling and at the time, most people could not afford the sticker price of a brand new Alfa Romeo vehicle. Alfa Romeo cars were built by hand and hand-built cars are never cheap. For this reason, the Alfa Romeo cars were cars that were hard to come by for the average Joe, making them perfect vehicles for the Italian police force.

The Alfa Romeo Spider vehicle was made famous during the hit motion picture, 'The Graduate,' with Dustin Hoffman. The protagonist in the movie whips around in that vehicle, showing off the fact that it is an Alfa Romeo, a much coveted motor vehicle. This makes Dustin Hoffman's character an 'Alfista,' meaning an Alfa Romeo owner. Multiple 'alfista' in one area make for an 'alfisti,' which is a group of Alfa Romeo car owners.

Alfa Romeo cars are rarely seen in the United States, and there is a reason for this. In 1995, Alfa Romeo stopped exporting their vehicles to the United States from overseas. During this time, Alfa Romeo vehicles were hard to come by in the States and those that were obtained were ordered and shipped at the Alfista's own expense. That is how strongly Alfa Romeo owners feel about owning their Alfa Romeo vehicles.

One interesting fact that few but true Alfa Romeo fans would know is that most Alfa Romeo vehicles are rear wheel drive. As a matter of fact, until the mid 1980s, all of the vehicles that Alfa Romeo manufactured were rear wheel drive. Also, Alfa Romeo is a subsidiary of another automobile manufacturer called Fiat. Alfa Romeo is now headquartered in an area that encompasses portions of Arese and Mangalese, but the headquarters was originally located in Milan, Italy. Alfa Romeo headquarters is now listed to be in Torino, Italy-the site of the last 2007 winter Olympic Games.

When Alfa Romeo first started out as a vehicle manufacturing company, they used a Twin Cam engine. These days, Alfa Romeo uses a GM-based, basic V6 engine in their vehicles, both those that are sold abroad and the cars that have recently been sold in the United States since the company's 2006 announcement that the Alfa Romeo would be soon returning to the United States.

The Alfa Romeo is a legend in vehicle manufacturing. They are known mostly by their emblem, an Alfa Romeo badge. The badge was created by a man named Romeo Cattaneo and Giuseppe Merosi. The Alfa Romeo emblem is a combination of the symbol of the City of Milan and the symbol of the original Visconti clan. Later on, Alfa Romeo became a winner in several championships and a winner's laurel wreath was then added to the Alfa Romeo emblem, completing the design of the seal. The words 'Alfa Romeo' are etched across the top of the emblem along the top border of the seal.

As far as concept cars go, Alfa Romeo has but one concept car worth noticing. It is the Alfa Romeo Nuvola and it was introduced in 1996 but never brought to production. The opening of the Alfa Romeo Nuvola was done in Paris to the delight of Alfa Romeo fans from all over the world.

Anthony Robbins' 12 Reasons Why People Don't Get Wealthy

According to Wallace Wattles, in his popular wealth treatise called the Science of Getting Rich, said that, "There is a science of getting rich, and it is an exact science, like algebra or arithmetic. There are certain laws which govern the process of acquiring riches, and once these laws are learned and obeyed by anyone, that person will get rich with mathematical certainty."

It is true. Those who make wealth know that it comes about by application of simple rules and principles. Those who don't make wealth don't know about these simple things, and so they assume that wealth is a result of luck or pure chance or something just as superstitious or silly.

Anthony Robbins is one of the top success coaches in the world, having coached star sports players, heads of states and Fortune 500 executives. In his Get The Edge program, he listed down 12 specific reasons he has come to observe to be the leading causes for most people's lack of wealth.

Here they are:

1. They never decide and really define, very specifically, what wealth means for them. The keyword here is specifically. Can you imagine how hard it would be to build a car or a plane without making a blueprint or sketch drawings of it first? You have to know what your target is before you go chasing after it.

2. They make wealth a moving target instead of a fixed one (this is related to point one above). Once you have your target, fix it. Don't change it until you reach it. You must accomplish each step, celebrate, and then set course for a new step, a new target.

3. They define it in a way that seems unreachable. You only achieve what you believe. No more, no less. So you must make it believable for you. Set goals that will make you move forward and stretch, but not too high that even you yourself don't believe you can. Take the biggest step you believe you can, achieve it, then take the next biggest you believe you can. This will build positive reinforcement in your self-confidence as well.

4. They never start. Ok, this is obvious. If you keep thinking about it forever, it will forever remain in the thought level. You have to act! Start somewhere, anywhere! Only after you start do you begin to get some feedback which will help you plot your course better. The aircraft has to first take off before it starts to adjust course for its destination. You must start, somewhere, anywhere, doesn't matter, just start! Act!

5. They never make it a must. Let me explain what it means to make it a must. It means marshalling all your intent, your will, your direction, into one singular flow that is directed towards your goal. All obstacles are viewed as challenges to be overcome. You will meet obstacles, and so expect it, but also expect to move forward anyways. Use your obstacles to develop strength and skills, don't run away. Find out how to go past them. Find out! There is always a way, always. And if your emotions are acting against your desire, embrace them, learn what they are, know yourself, but keep moving forward. Make it a must, and it will happen. Guaranteed. You don't know in how many steps it will take, but you know it will happen.

6. They don't have a realistic plan. If you want to do something, find out how it is done from someone who has done it before. Make a realistic plan. Copy from those who have succeeded before you. But don't throw away your intuition. Your intuition is extremely powerful once you learn how to listen to it with practice.

7. If they have a realistic plan, they never follow through on the plan. Well, if you don't follow the plan, who will?

8. They give responsibility to others ("experts") instead of to themselves. This way, they never really learn how to do it, and if there are failures they never learn why the failures happened and so they are bound to repeat them. It is a good idea to get advice, but do it yourself. At least understand it yourself even if you will delegate the actual doing.

9. They give up when they face challenges. Going through the challenges is what has made people rich, not giving up. Look, there are always challenges. So get used to that. You will only get where you wish to get to if you are willing to face the challenges along the path. All challenges are opportunities dressed in work clothes, remember that. After the challenge is over, you will discover the amazing fruit it held for you.

10. They fail to conduct their lives as a business; they never ensure that they make a profit year by year. Get a personal finance package like Quicken or Microsoft Money. you need to have budgets and cash flow statements for your personal finances and your businesses. It is easy with those software packages. If you don't keep records and track, you wont know when you are making or losing money until it is embarrassingly too late.

11. They allow other people's ideas to affect their decisions unreasonably. There will always be people who don't believe in your way, or who are pessimistic, who try to pull you down, or whatever. And they will sometimes be your closest friends and family. You cannot change that - they have a right to be who they are. It is OK. Allow them their thoughts, don't judge them for that, but don't feel obligated to accept their thoughts of follow their way. Don't allow other people, now or from the past, unreasonably affect your decisions. Allow them their way, and you live your way.

12. They don't get quality coaching. This is extremely important! Coaching is simply getting mentored by someone who has succeeded wildly in the area of your interest. Get coaching! Our education system hardly equips us for real life, so don't assume that because you went to college you are properly equipped. Hardly. You need to keep learning. The most successful people attend seminars, read books, join mastermind groups and clubs, find mentors, network, and even hire expensive personal coaches to make sure they succeed.

How many of these reasons can you identify with? Well, now that you see the reasons, you now can look at yourself and make sure that you don't follow ways that are known to not lead to wealth. Follow what works and it will work. And don't forget to enjoy yourself along the way.

Alone or Lonely? Which word can you identify with? Do you feel lonely because you are not in a relationship right now, whether it is because of a break up, divorce or death? Or are you embracing your singlehood and enjoying your alone time?

Dr. Bruce Fisher author of Rebuilding when your Relationship Ends outlines three stages of loneliness withdrawal, becoming busyholics and aloneness.

When a relationship ends your world can be turned upside. Life as you have known it has come to an end. When this happens many of us go into survival mode and withdraw. Withdrawal is so much easier than facing each day without your spouse or significant other. If you barricade yourself in your home or apartment then you dont have to face the awkward questions. For me the awkward questions were the worst, personally it took three months before I told anyone that my husband and I separated. Maybe this stage should be called denial instead of withdrawal. Withdrawing will work for a limited time, but before you know it the silence becomes deafening. It almost seems like the silence is mocking you, reinforcing that your relationship is over.

The silence will push many of us forward toward the next stage becoming busyholics. The silence is so deafening that you want to wipe it away and the only way you can do that is to fill your days so full that you have no time alone, to hear the deafening silence. If you are so busy by the time you get home or stop to rest you are so exhausted you immediately fall asleep to start the circus anew the next day. By keeping so busy you dont have the time to really assess your feelings and the pain and anguish are not real. Or at least that is what you are trying to make yourself believe. I was a victim of this stage, I filled my calendar so full making sure that I never had to be home alone, so I wouldnt have to face those scary feelings. Many people stay stuck in this stage because the next stage is way too scary; aloneness. You know these people, the ones that carry around the victim, bitterness or revenge badge. The ones who still talk negatively about their ex and when you ask how long ago the relationship ended, thinking it was just yesterday, they reply oh its been about ten years now. Talk about being stuck!

Many are afraid of this stage because the aloneness stage requires you to really feel. You begin to grieve the lost relationship and the pain and anguish become real. You are finally forced to face reality, the relationship is over, he or she is not coming back. This stage is where all of the healing occurs, if you let it. From this stage the foundation for your future is built. The key to successfully navigating through this stage is your willingness to experience the pain and grieve the loss of the relationship.

If you dont face the pain, feel it and work through it, then you will be plagued throughout your life with glimpses of the pain that you never resolved. The pain will help you stay stuck in a place that is not emotionally healthy for you or your family. I understand how easy it can be to push the pain away each time you get close to it, but if you keep pushing till you get to the other side chances are the issue that is causing you the pain will be resolved to never interfere in your life again. The problem is that many of us will stop when the pain starts to get raw. When we get to this place we stop and run the other way. By not resolving the pain or the issue that caused the pain it will continue to show up again and again reminding you that you have not dealt with it. So my advice to you is to feel the pain, even if it gets really bad, so you only have to go through the experience one time. The joy that you will eventually feel on the other side of the pain is definitely worth the work. Keep on pushing, ask for support from others if it gets to be too much, but dont give up on yourself. You are worth it. Give yourself the gift of happiness!

In my opinion the aloneness stage is the most important stage. This is the stage, if you give it a chance, where you will learn the most about yourself. From here you can begin to map out your future, design a life of your choosing. If you embrace this stage, learn and grow from it you will be in charge of your destiny not your destiny being in charge of you. And if another relationship is in your future, you will have gained the tools you need to attract the right partner into your life.

Balancing the Scales

If youre like most people you are probably working harder and longer than you used to. As a result, finding balance in todays fast-paced world is more difficult than ever before. Yet, a healthy balance has also never been more important. Here are a few strategies that can help:

1.First and foremost, you must love what you do. We spend over a third of our life at work doesnt it make sense to enjoy it? I learned many years ago that the more you enjoy your job or work the more successful you will be. Even a high-pressure job is less stressful when you fully enjoy it. I know several people who have high-profile and high-pressure careers but they still maintain a sense of balance because they love their business. Enjoying your work gives you more satisfaction and personal fulfillment.

If you find yourself in a job that doesnt motivate or stimulate you, consider making a change. There are lots of great books on the market that can help you discover what type of work you are best suited for.

2.Make time for family and friends. Regardless how busy you are it is critical to spend time with people who are close to you. In the last several years my wife and I make sure to schedule a date night once a week. This usually means having dinner at a local restaurant or going to a movie, show, or concert. Although we often talk about our business it gives us the opportunity to catch up and discuss things we dont always find time to talk about during the rest of the week. Spending time with friends is also a great way to recharge mentally, particularly if your friends are not employed in the same industry.

3.Find a hobby. I think it is important to engage yourself in a pastime or hobby because they help you forget about work for a while. My two favourite pastimes are reading and running. In additional to releasing stress, this escape helps recharge your batteries and maintain your objectivity. Plus, a clear energized mind is more creative and open to accepting new ideas.

4.Schedule me time. As selfish as it sounds we all need a few hours of personal time. I usually schedule this when my wife is out running errands. Most of the time Ill read, watch a movie, or sometimes take a nap. I dont feel guilty for taking this time to myself because it actually helps my marriage by allowing me to engage in something I fully enjoy without worrying about distractions from other people. One word of caution, Me time should not be scheduled at the sacrifice of others or occupy a large portion of your schedule. If you have been on a business trip for a week its not fair to your family to schedule the entire weekend as me time.

5.Take vacations. Vacations are critical to your well-being. It is essential to take a break from the hectic and fast-paced business world. Too many people in business wave their lack of vacation time as a badge of honour but I feel that a lack of a break from the business negatively affects your ability to perform at your maximum potential. When I started my business, I set a goal of taking a one-week break at least three times a year. I adhered to this goal in the first three years because I made sure to plan my breaks early in the year. Then in my fourth year I neglected to plan this time off. Before I knew it, October had rolled around and I still hadnt taken any time off. By this time, I was feeling burned out, I experienced more stress, and I had less energy, drive and motivation.

6.Disconnect yourself. Todays technology has made it very difficult for us to completely disconnect from business. I find that I am drawn to email on the weekends and even on vacations. We dont want to miss anything and sometimes our boss even requires that we stay connected to the office on our time off. However, I strongly believe that disconnecting yourself completely from voice mail, email, your PDA and BlackBerry is essential to creating some semblance of balance in our lives. There is no question that you will have more work to catch up on when you return to work but this complete break helps your brain recharge.

I wont suggest that creating this balance is easy its not. However, with a bit of focus and attention you can start to balance the scales. Its worth the effort.
